At Brookside, our aim is to provide a choice which gives the professional care needed, with the warmth of a family home. We want to help your loved one to fit right in, make new friends and really enjoy life. The staff we spoke with had a good knowledge and the skills to provide the care that people required. We were told and saw evidence that people using the service were protected from harm, abuse and neglect. There were arrangements for the management of people's finances in place.

Staff were observed to be kind and caring and they told us they were well supported by the registered manager. There were enough suitably qualified staff, who had been recruited using safe recruitment procedures, available to maintain people’s safety and meet their individual needs. People’s medicines were stored and administered by medication trained staff.

A training programme was in place to ensure all of the new staff recruited had the skills and knowledge for their role. People’s needs were assessed before they moved into the home and provided staff with the required information to meet their needs. People were supported to have choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. Further training was required to ensure staff fully understood the Mental Capacity Act.

Hilderstone Hall is a Grade 2 listed building which has retained many of its features.... My recent visits have coincided with Bingo, Quizzes and musical exercise activity. It has several comfortable communal areas such as the large and airy lounge and spacious conservatory where you can chat with friends, read, watch TV, or join in the many activities we provide. Brookside is a lovely traditional property that combines many of its original features with a tastefully updated and modernised interior. The home is small enough to retain the feel of a real home and all the residents and staff know one another. Weston House cares for and supports elderly with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. The nursing home also accepts individuals with mental health conditions. Wilford House 47 Rowley Bank, Stafford, ST17 9BA ★★☆☆ Wilford House is a medium size residental home situated in Stafford, with capacity to house 31 residents.

Ratings:

CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. Brookside accommodates up to 25 older people that may live with Dementia in one adapted building. The providers Mr and Mrs Rowlands have owned the home since August 2004. The home consists of 17 single bedrooms and four double bedrooms, most with en-suite wc facilities. The spacious sitting room and the refurbished conservatory allow a choice for the service users and complement the homely environment.

With a few exceptions, accommodation in a care home cannot be bought or rented like retirement housing. Think of them more like full-board hotel accommodation with 24 hour care available. – there are some services which we can’t rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon. – the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service. This is the latest available inspection report for this service, carried out on 10th April 2008.

One lady told us "I can't fault it. The staff are marvellous, very friendly and compassionate to us all." People’s risks were assessed in a way that kept them safe from the risk of harm. Where possible people’s rights to be as independent as possible were respected. Staffing levels were sufficient to meet people's needs and staff had their suitability to work in a care setting checked before they began working with people. Premises were kept clean and tidy and people were protected from the risk of infection.

Rosevilla Nursing Home is a large care home located in Stafford, with a capacity of fourty. The care home cares for and supports adults of all ages including those with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Rosevilla Nursing Home also cares for residents with physical disabilities. The people that use the service told us that the staff are very professional and appear knowledgeable, but they also check things if they are not sure which is good. One lady said she feels so much better for being at the home as the staff have looked after her so well. The home had a complaints procedure which people living in the home were aware of. Staff treated people with respect and ensured their privacy and dignity was upheld. Improvements to the choice and presentation of food would mean people received a diet that met their preferences. The provider had a complaints procedure and people knew how to use it.
